GINGIVITIS

WHAT IS AND HOW IS TREATED

When oral hygiene is insufficient, bacteria that are under normal conditions in our mouth begin to multiply creating a sticky membrane on the surface of the teeth called the dental plaque. If the plaque remains for a period of 2-3 weeks, inflammation begins in the area and gingivitis is formed. The main symptoms of gingivitis are red, swollen and sensitive gums that can easily bleed, in addition with bad breath. Many times the symptoms are mild enough to escape our attention.

In gingivitis, the inflammation is restricted to the gums, so the condition at this stage is fully reversible if treated by the periodontist.

The treatment of gingivitis includes 2 phases:

  • oral hygiene instructions. This is a lesson in which specialized staff of our clinic practically teaches you, according to your oral needs, the most effective way of oral hygiene.
  • scaling. It is a painless process since it is always performed under local anesthesia. Usually 4-6 sessions, 20 minutes each, are required to complete the treatment. Polishing of teeth and post-treatment evaluation in a week are followed.

Treatment is considered successful when:

  • the patient applies effective oral hygiene
  • gums do not bleed
  • there is a sense of health in the mouth.

We consider the long-term maintenance of the therapies we complete. For this reason, recall is an essential part of the treatment. Depending on the patient's needs, recalls are determined every 4-6 months and include the patient's activation of oral hygiene and the removal of bacteria, plaque and calculus from the surface of the teeth. The duration of the recall is about half an hour and the use of local anesthesia is not necessary.

The staff of our clinic is responsible for reminding you your recall for your convenience and long-term maintenance of the therapeutic result.
